How to Synchronize Mint & Quicken

One way to keep Mint.com and Quicken synchronized with the same financial data is to set up the same accounts in each application. But the two products from Intuit don't have an automatic cross-platform synchronization feature. To get the data updated correctly and synced on both applications, you'll also need to set up Quicken to automatically connect to your financial institutions' websites. You probably already have your online banking accounts set up on Mint.com, so focus on getting the same accounts set up in the Quicken software.

Instructions

    • 1

Double-click the "Quicken" icon from your computer's desktop.

    • 2

Click the "Tools" menu on the top navigation bar and click the "Add Account" option. Alternatively, you can click the "Add Account" button at the bottom of the Accounts sidebar on the left-hand side.

    • 3

Click the radio button for the account type you wish to add. Some of the account types you can pick from include checking, savings, credit card, loan and investing or retirement. Click the "Next" button.

    • 4

Click the radio button for The Account Is Held at the Following Institution. On the field below, start typing the name of your financial institution and click the name from the populated list. Alternatively, you can click one of the letter icons to see a full list of supported institutions. Click "Next."

    • 5

Type your username and password on the next screen. Re-enter the password to verify you typed it correctly the first time. Click the "Next" button. Quicken will connect to your bank's website.

    • 6

Click the "Next" button again when you see the "Transaction Download Available" message on the top of the dialog box. You're required to answer security questions to finalize the online account setup.

    • 7

Click the check box for the accounts you wish to add. This is important when you have a bank with multiple accounts, such as a checking, savings or mortgage loan. Click the "Next" button.

    • 8

Click the "Done" button when finished. Add another account for each account you wish to synchronize.

    • 9

Click the down arrow next to the Accounts column, and then hover over "One Step Update" and click "All Accounts." You can repeat this step any time you wish to update the accounts you have connected to your bank or credit card's online site.

Tips & Warnings

  • When you log into Mint.com your accounts should automatically start updating. If they don't, then click the "Update" link next to the Accounts heading on the left-hand side.
