How to Remove Bots From Yahoo Chat

Chat bots are an extremely annoying part of any public Yahoo chat room. Chat bots are not people, but programs made to imitate human users. They clutter the chat room with advertisements and lewd comments, while harassing people connected to the channel with links to external sites. These sites are commonly designed to steal personal information or infect your computer with Malware. Malware is malicious software that disrupts normal system functions and can cause damage to your data. The best way to deal with bots is to ignore them entirely and report them to Yahoo for spamming.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect to the chat room of your choice.

    • 2

Right click on the name of a bot that is spamming the room, and select "Ignore User." This will prevent anything the bot does from appearing on your screen, effectively removing it from your chat. You can usually tell a bot apart from a human because of the generic phrases it uses. The grammar is oddly structured and it doesn't really talk about anything. It'll try to link you to an external site, or advertise some product you should buy. Sex is often mentioned or used to try to lure you into conversation. Bots nearly always represent themselves as female.

Right click the name of the bot and select "Report Abuse" This will alert Yahoo that this user is potentially a bot (or simply being abusive) and send the chat transcripts. In time the bot will be banned or otherwise removed as a user. Many people have to report a bot as an abuser before it can be removed. There is no magic number of reports, but a few scattered reports won't do it. The more reports there are, the quicker the bot is dealt with.

Right click the name of the bot and select "Kick user." This will remove it from the chat room entirely. This will only work if you created the chat room and have host privileges.
