How to Install a Bluecat Proteus 5000 Rack

The Bluecat Proteus 5000 is a server-mounted rack that tracks IP addresses. If your server gets a lot of traffic, it can be taxing on the machine to monitor the IP addresses that access it. The Proteus 5000 offloads this process, storing logs of every IP address and freeing up server space. Installing it is relatively simple, since once you connect it it begins to collect the IP addresses automatically.

Instructions

    • 1

Install the Proteus 5000 rack onto your server rack (if you have one). Just screw it in normally, near enough to the server for the wires to connect. If you don’t have a server rack, you can simply position the machine on a nearby surface.

    • 2

Connect the two Proteus 5000 output wires to red and black input channels on your server. Generally servers will have multiple input channels and they all work the same. Consult the documentation for your server if you are not sure.

    • 3

Plug the Proteus 5000 into a electrical outlet.

    • 4

Press the power button on the back.

    • 5

Log into your server’s administrative panel. You should now see a new Proteus 5000 menu.

    • 6

Click the menu, then click “Enable.” It will begin to store IP logs that you can access from this same menu.
