Use video messaging software to start your business.

Online tutoring is one way to make extra money. Certain companies can take you on as a contractor and match you with students, but you could run your own online tutoring service to help students all over the globe. As long as you have a webcam, video messaging software and a stable Internet connection on hand, advertising your tutoring and garnering clients is the natural next step of setting up your online tutoring services.

Instructions

    • 1

Download a video messaging software such as Skype or ooVoo so you can chat with your clients in real time with a webcam. If you have an onboard webcam, Skype will recognize your camera capabilities automatically. If you've purchased a stand-alone camera, install the driver that came with the hardware so you computer and software recognize the webcam, and then plug in the webcam.

    • 2

Create a Skype or ooVoo username during the setup process for the program. Your username is how your clients will interact with you, so choose one that's professional.

    • 3

Advertise your services through a variety of channels for maximum exposure. Everything from online classified ads to campus websites and social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter work well to help you get clients. When a potential client responds to your ads, arrange for pricing and payment before you begin your sessions.

Encourage your potential clients to download Skype or another video messaging software so you can talk face-to-face. In some cases you'll need to physically show your students certain concepts, which is why video messaging works well. Once your client has downloaded the video messaging software and created a username, ask for his details.

Add the client's username to your contact list to set up your session. In Skype, click "Add Contact" at the top of your contact list menu, and then search using your client's username. When you're ready to start your online tutoring session, double-click his name and click "Video Call."
