How to Remove a Kohler Jet

Like other hot tubs, Kohler whirlpool hot tubs use jets to move the water. The jets are locked in place, and the manufacturer cautions against removing them. But if you are handy, you might decide to go ahead and remove and replace the jets yourself. Be careful not to lose any pieces as you work. You will need all of them when you reassemble the jets. Kohler jets are either brass or plastic. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Brass Jet

    • 1

Remove the screws that hold the jet plate in position. Set them aside in a safe location.

    • 2

Grasp the jet, and pull it out to remove the entire jet assembly, including the plate. Insert a screwdriver into an empty screw hole to assist you in removing the assembly, if necessary.

    • 3

Set the assembly on a solid surface to take apart. Keep track of how you remove the pieces so that you can reassemble them later.

    Plastic Jets

    • 4

Position a flat screwdriver under the ball lock ring to loosen it.

    • 5

Pop the ball and lock ring away from the jet assembly. Set the pieces in a safe location.

    • 6

Remove the jet and orifice plate, using a 9/16 inch socket wrench. Set the pieces aside in the order that you removed them for easy reassembly.

Tips & Warnings

  • Lay a strip of masking tape on your work surface, and write the numbers 1 through 10 on the tape. Set each piece from the jet next to a number, in the order that you removed it. Work backward to put the assembly back together.

  • Put a plug in the whirlpool to keep any loose parts from falling down the drain.

  • Kohler does not recommend that you service the jets yourself. You can clean the jets while they are in place to unplug and disinfect them.
