The Bamboo Craft Tablet is a handy device for graphic artists and designers, but it can also be fun for kids to play with, or for parents to draft plans for a new project. There are many ways a tablet can malfunction, but there are also standard methods to combat some common problems. Does this Spark an idea?

      If the tablet seems to be working, but the computer doesn't recognize it, turn off the tablet. Unplug it from the computer. Reboot the computer. Make sure the USB connection is secure. Make sure the cable isn't damaged. Plug the tablet in. Turn it on.

      For general connectivity issues, uninstall any drivers that the tablet came with. Reinstall them. Repeat Step 1. Make sure you're using the latest drivers.

      On a PC, find the Wacom folder in the program files folder. Delete anything you find there. On a Mac, look for Wacom in the applications folder and delete it. Reinstall the latest drivers from the Wacom website (see Resources).

      If the pen seems to be failing, determine whether the pen or the pad is faulty by pressing on the tablet with your fingers. If the pen is the problem, remove the pen nib and clean the nib and the space in the pen's tip with compressed air. If it's the pad, repeat Step 1. If that fails, move to Step 4.

      If the tablet seems to be on, and functional, but there's no reaction on the computer, make sure the software you'd like to use is properly installed. For example, make sure Photoshop is working by itself before trying to use it with the Bamboo tablet. If the program is malfunctioning, contact that program's tech support line.
