How to Be a Grape for Halloween

Put together a creative Halloween costume by dressing yourself up like a grape. This costume is appropriate for people of any age, from toddlers all the way up through retirees. When selecting a type of grape costume for Halloween, you have two major choices. First, choose between green and purple grapes. Second, you can either dress as one single grape or as a bunch of grapes. A bunch of grapes is generally easier to recognize, but a single grape can make a creative costume as well.

Things You'll Need

• Clothing of same color as grapes, or black
• Green felt
• Scissors
• Elastic cord
• Safety pins
• Long green balloon
• Purple or green cloth, depending on grape color
• Newspaper
• Purple or green balloons, depending on grape color
• Green knit cap

Instructions

Single Grape

1. Wear plain black clothing or clothing of the same color as your grape will be.

2. Cut a large grape leaf shape out of the green felt. The leaf should measure at least 1 foot across and have five points with very jagged edges all around the leaf.

3. Set the leaf on top of your head and use a safety pin to attach a piece of elastic cord to the bottom of the leaf on the left side of your head. Run the cord under your chin and safety pin it to the bottom of the leaf on your right side to hold it on.

4. Inflate a long green balloon and safety pin it to the base of the leaf as the stem.

5. Cut two leg holes in the center of a large piece of green or purple fabric. The fabric needs to be big enough to get all the way up to your neck.

6. Step into the leg holes and have a friend use several safety pins to pin the fabric into a neckline around your shoulders and back. Leave the front of the neckline unpinned for now.

7. Loosely crumple single sheets of newspaper and stick them inside the fabric pouch to fill the grape. Stop when the grape is as plump as you would like it to be.

8. Safety pin around the front of your neckline to close the grape at the top.

Bunch of Grapes

1. Dress in clothing of the same color as your balloons.

2. Inflate about 30 balloons to approximately 1 foot in diameter and tie the balloons off. Do not use helium in the balloons.

3. Safety pin the bottom of each balloon to your clothing. Use more balloons at your shoulders and just a few around your hips so you look like a bunch of grapes that tapers off at the bottom.

4. Cut three 8-inch grape leaf shapes from felt and safety pin them to the green knit cap with their bases near the top center of the hat. Wear this on your head as the finishing touch.
