1
Locate the price tag on the shirt and examine how it is attached. Authentic Lacoste price tags have a small round hole in the left bottom corner with a red octagon, or stop sign shape, surrounding it. Look closely to determine if the red area is actually round, which means it is a fake.
-
2
Read the price tag and the interior fabric care tag carefully to ensure all the words are spelled correctly and have the proper punctuation. Spelling errors or typos are indications the Lacoste shirt is not authentic.

3
Examine the placement of the alligator logo on the front of the shirt. In authentic shirts, the alligator always faces to the right. In addition, the alligator is centered between the lowest button and the bottom of the placket the buttons attach to.
-
4
Look closely at the buttons to ensure they have small silver or shiny streaks in them. If the buttons are all one color consistency, such as white, the shirt is not authentic. The button hole should also be vertical, not horizontal.
-
5
Turn the shirt inside out and look for a care label. Authentic Lacoste shirts have both French and English instructions on it and they have the word “DEVANLAY” in all capital letters positioned at the bottom.

Tips & Warnings
Lacoste sells their clothing line through a series of high-end stores and department stores. If you purchase shirts in low-end stores, flea markets or from individuals, there is a high likelihood it is not authentic.
