How to Get the Recon Hood in "Mass Effect"

The hood raises weapon damage by 5 percent.

The Recon Hood was originally introduced to the "Mass Effect 2" game as a promotional item. It is one of three pieces of headgear made available as bonus download content. The codes to redeem the objects are found beneath Dr Pepper caps and on the side of fountain cup labels. The codes expire January 31, 2012, but you can request a free code until the end of December 30, 2011.

• Self-addressed, stamped envelope

Instructions

1. Mail a self-addressed, postage-paid envelope to:

   YOU Technology Brand Services, Inc.
   Dr Pepper/EA Games Code request
   701 Gateway Blvd., Suite 101
   South San Fransisco, CA 94080

2. Navigate to drpepper.com/promotions/ea in your browser once you receive the code.

3. Scroll through the list of games and click "Mass Effect 2."

4. Choose your platform; for example, "Xbox 360" or "PC."

5. Select the Recon Hood and click "Get Prize."

6. Click "Create an Account Now" to make a Dr Pepper account if you do not already have one.

7. Enter the code, and you are redirected to EA.com.

8. Log into EA, or create an account if necessary, and click "Download."

Tips & Warnings

• After the promotion ends and the codes expire, you can still download the hood from file-sharing sites like MegaUpload, Rapidshare and MediaFire. If you use this method, turn off "Gameplay Feedback," "Autoconnect" and "Automatic Login" in the "Options" menu before installing the content.
