How to Get Likes to Show on the Right Side of Tumblr
Giving readers a way to "Like" your Tumblr blog on Facebook can greatly increase the traffic it receives. Each time a reader casts her "Like" vote, each of her friends receives the address of your blog in the form of a Facebook update. If her friends visit your blog and "Like" it as well, this can quickly lead to a massive influx of new visitors as more and more people are notified about the quality of your blog's content. To make this process simple for your visitors, place the "Like" button on the right side of your Tumblr blog.
Instructions
-
-
1
Browse to the "Like Button" page on the Facebook Developers website, located at developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/like.
-
2
Type the full URL of your Tumblr blog in the "URL to Like" field at the top of the page. A full Tumblr blog URL uses the format "blogname.tumblr.com."
-
-
3
Remove the check from the box labeled "Send Button."
-
4
Select the appearance you want to use for the "Like" button using the "Layout Style" drop-down menu.
-
5
Type the desired width for the "Like" button and related information in the "Width" field. By default, the Facebook "Like" button displays the faces of Facebook members who have liked your blog recently. This constrains the graphics associated with the widget to a set maximum. If your Tumblr blog uses the default "Redux" theme, this number should be set to approximately 205 pixels.
-
6
Remove the check from the box labeled "Show Faces" if you do not want the button to display the faces of the people who like your blog.
-
7
Select "Recommend" on the "Verb to display" drop-down menu if desired to change the button from a "Like" button to a "Recommend" button.
-
8
Select "Dark" on the "Color Scheme" drop-down menu, if desired, to change the design of the "Like" button to one with a dark background and light text.
-
9
Select "Lucida Grande" on the "Font" drop-down menu to change the font of the "Like" button so it matches the default font of your Tumblr blog's sidebar. Alternatively, select "Arial" to match the body text of your posts.
-
10
Click the "Get Code" button to generate the HTML code for the "Like" button. The code appears in a pop-up window. Click "IFRAME" at the top of the window and highlight the code below with the mouse pointer. Right-click the code and select "Copy" on the context menu.
-
11
Log in to your Tumblr.com account using a new browser tab. Click the title of your blog at the top of the Tumblr Dashboard, and then click "Customize Appearance" on the right side.
-
12
Right-click the "Description" field on the left side of the "Customize" page and select "Paste" on the context menu to paste the code for the "Like" button.
-
13
Click the "Save" button in the upper-left corner of the screen, and then click "Close."
