How to Increase Technorati Authority

Your blog's authority ranking on Technorati is a score that measures its relative importance within the blogging community. When other blogs link to yours in a short time frame, your authority increases. However, authority drops over time if your blog stops attracting links. Therefore, you may find it difficult to increase your blog's authority without a concerted effort targeting other blogs listed on Technorati. Increase your blog's authority by looking for blogs on Technorati that allow reader comments and do not append the nofollow tag to links.

Instructions

    • 1

Find blogs on Technorati related to your website's subject. From the Technorati.com home page, click a topic at the top of the page such as "Technology." On the next page, you can select a more specific category such as "Gadgets" using the drop-down menu at the top of the screen.

    • 2

Click the "View All (category name) blogs" link to see the full list of blogs related to the selected category ranked in order of their Technorati authority.

    • 3

Visit each blog on the list. On each blog, locate a post with comments from readers and view the source code for the page. For example, in Internet Explorer 9, right-click an open are of the page and select "View Source." This displays the blog's source code in a new window.

    • 4

Locate a reader comment with a link in the source code by pressing "Ctrl" and "F" simultaneously, typing a portion of the comment's text in the Find dialog and pressing "Enter."

    • 5

Check the link for a "nofollow" tag. A link with a nofollow tag looks like the following:

      <a href="http://www.mywebsite.com" rel="nofollow">My Website</a>

A link with a nofollow tag does not contribute directly to Technorati authority. If you see this tag, check the next blog on the list.

    • 6

Leave comments on blogs that do not use the nofollow tag in comment links. Make sure that each comment you leave contributes to the discussion; a comment that contributes nothing and includes a link to your website may be marked as spam and deleted by the blog owner. Each link to your blog contributes to its authority rating on Technorati.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not neglect nofollow blogs completely when searching for blogs to comment on. If you become a valuable part of a blog's discussion community, the owner may read your blog and link to it in one of her posts.

  • Click the "Tags" link at the top of the page on Technorati.com to see a list of the most popular topics discussed on Technorati in the last 30 days. Because these are the topics that people are actively searching for and writing about, posting about these topics may increase your chance of getting links from other blog owners.
