How to Do Funny Chat Box Icons

A number of companies offer chat programs that you can download and install on your computer. Although created by different companies, most have standard features, including the ability to express your emotions during a chat session by using emoticons.

Instructions

  1. Skype

      Launch Skype, then sign in to your account.

      Click on the contact you want to chat with from the list on the left side of the window.

      Click "Conversation" in the menu bar. Select "Send" from the drop-down list, then click "Instant Message (IM)."

      Click on the smiley face icon at the upper left corner of the instant messenger box. A popup window containing a list of emoticons opens.

      Click the funny emoticon you want to use, then click the "Send" button to send it.

    Windows Live Messenger

      Launch Windows Live Messenger, then log in to your account.

      Double-click on the name of the friend you want to chat with. The conversation window opens.

      Click the wink icon at the bottom of the conversation window, then select the funny icon you want to send. Click the "Send" button.

    Yahoo! Messenger

      Launch Yahoo! Messenger, then enter your login information in the appropriate boxes and log in to your account.

      Click "Preferences" from the menu bar, then select the "Messages" category on the left side of the window.

      Click the "Enable Emoticons" under "Miscellaneous" on the right side of the window, then click "OK."

      Select the contact you want to send a funny icon to, then click "Actions" from the menu bar and select "Send an Instant Message." The Instant Message window opens.

      Click the emoticon icon, then select a funny emoticon to add to your instant message chat. Click "Send" to send the message.

Tips & Warnings

  • A contact must be online before you can initiate a chat conversation with him.
