Email must be directed through an SMTP server to reach its destination.

Southwestern Bell and AT&T have had long-standing ties in the communications business. The two completed a corporate merger in 2005 under the AT&T brand, though SBC Global email accounts have continued on through the partnership with Yahoo! Inc. The simple mail transfer protocol is necessary to send messages if you use an email client on your desktop. SMTP can be set up in Microsoft Outlook 2010's account preferences.

Instructions

    • 1

      Open your mail client.

    • 2

Access your account settings. In Outlook 2010, choose "Info" from the "File" menu, and then select the settings for your SBC Global account.

    • 3

Click the name of the correct account under the "Email" tab in the screen now appearing. Access the server information by clicking the "Change" button.

    • 4

Type the correct address in the box labeled "Outgoing mail server (SMTP)." The address depends on the specific affiliation of your SBC account:

      SBC Pacbell — smtp.pacbell.yahoo.com
      SBC Prodigy — smtpauth.prodigy.net
      SBC Southwestern Bell — smtp.swbell.yahoo.com
      SBC Yahoo! — smtp.sbcglobal.yahoo.com
