How to Connect to an Interchangeable Crochet Headband

How to Connect to an Interchangeable Crochet Headband thumbnail
Interchangeable crocheted headbands can be decorated with multi-colored flowers and other embellishments.

There’s no need to have a headband that matches every outfit when you have an interchangeable crocheted headband. Interchangeable headbands are constructed so clips can be added to change a look. With an interchangeable headband, you can match your headband to your outfit. For example, you can wear a big purple flower on your headband on Monday. In contrast, Tuesday might give rise to an understated bow.

Things You'll Need

  • Glue gun
  • Glue stick
  • Headband
  • 1/2-inch wide grosgrain ribbon, 1 inch long
  • Skinny rectangular alligator clips
  • Silk flowers, feathers, ribbon or tulle

Instructions

    • 1

Plug in the glue gun. When it is hot enough, insert a glue stick. You will use the glue gun to create a loop that will be the foundation for interchangeable headband decorations.

    • 2

Squeeze a bead of glue onto the outside surface of the headband and attach one end of the ribbon, extending the length of the ribbon upward. Squeeze a second bead of glue directly below the first bead. Wrap the ribbon around the headband and attach the other end. Turn the headband over. The ribbon loop provides a spot to attach various decorations.

    • 3

Apply glue to the top of an alligator clip. Attach flowers, feathers, ribbon or tulle to the glued clip. Repeat this step for as many clips as you have.

    • 4

Clip a decoration onto the headband by pressing an alligator clip open, inserting the bottom portion of the clip through the ribbon loop, and closing the clip onto the loop. Change the look of the headband easily by removing the clip and replacing it with another one.

Tips & Warnings

  • Simple bobby pins can be used instead of alligator clips. There’s no end to what you can decorate each pin or clip with. Try rhinestones, buttons, gathered pieces of fabric or sequins.

  • To prevent burns, make sure an adult supervises this activity if children are involved. Consider using an alternative to hot glue, such as craft glue.
