How to Build a Bamboo Round Plant Support
Plant supports are used in gardening and household plant care to support a plant’s weight and to direct growth. Using plant supports can also bring organization and aesthetic beauty to your garden and house plants, whether you are growing one or many plants. Bamboo is a material often chosen for plant support due to its versatility and abundance. Bamboo is one of the fastest-growing plants in the world. The timbers are straight, weather-resistant and available in many lengths and thicknesses. Making a round bamboo plant support is a relatively easy project that requires few materials. Support for House Plants
-
1
Measure any houseplants that are drooping unnaturally or having trouble growing straight. Measure from the top of the plant to the bottom of its pot or container.
-
2
Purchase round bamboo stakes based on your measurements. You will need approximately one stake per plant, unless the plant is very large and heavy, or if it has multiple drooping sections.
-
-
3
Press the bamboo stake into the plant’s soil until it reaches the bottom of the pot. Cut a length of string. Tie one end of the string to the bamboo stake. Gently tie the other end of the string to the plant, near the top. If the plant is especially heavy, tie another length of string to the stake and plant near the bottom.
Creating a Round Cage Support for Garden Plants

4
Measure the height of the garden plant around which you would like to build a support cage. Choose round bamboo support stakes that are six to eight inches longer than the plant. Depending on the size of the plant, you will need between three to ten stakes.
-
5
Hammer the stakes in a circle around the perimeter of the plant. The spacing between each stake depends on the plant’s size. Hammer the stakes down six to eight inches into the ground. This will ensure that the stakes hold up in windy weather.
-
6
Use a wire cutter to cut lengths of wire. Wire lengths will depend on the spacing between each bamboo stake. Attach a length of wire in between each stake. Hook the ends of the wire around each stake and twist. Work upward to the top of the structure, attaching lengths of wire every four inches.

7
Use round cage supports for garden plants such as tomato plants and climbing plants like beans. These structures are both transportable and reusable.

Tips & Warnings
Bamboo plant supports come in green and natural wood colors. Choose the color that you think best complements your garden or house plants.
Do not string wires more than four inches apart when building a round bamboo support cage, especially if you are building the cage for climbing plants. If wires exceed four inches in separation, the newest plant growth may not be able to reach the next level of support as it grows upward.
