Despite having a strong flavor, salmon is a versatile protein that adapts well to a number of different dishes. Pair a broiled salmon fillet with teriyaki, curry sauce, mango chutney, tartar sauce or citrus glaze to create distinct entrees. You can also use broiled salmon in pasta dishes, fried rice or salads. However you plan to serve the fish, cook it first and then either dress it or add it to your pasta, rice or salad. Does this Spark an idea?

  • Broiler pan
  • Salmon fillets or steaks
  • Oil or fat
  • Salt and pepper

      Move the oven rack to 5 or 6 inches from the top heating element.

      Set the oven temperature to "Broil." If you have more than one broil setting, use the highest one. Allow the oven to heat for two or three minutes.

      Place the fish on a broiler pan. If you are using fillets with skin, place the fish skin-side down.

      Brush the fish with oil or butter and sprinkle it with salt and pepper.

      Put the broiler pan in the oven. Cook for roughly 10 minutes per inch of thickness. If you are cooking a fillet with skin, don't turn the fish. If you are cooking steaks or skinless fillets, turn them halfway through the cooking time. Fish should reach an internal temperature of at least 145 degrees Fahrenheit.

      Remove the broiler pan from the oven and dress the salmon with your favorite sauce, glaze or garnish or add it to your pasta, rice or salad.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you don't have a broiler pan, you can place a rack in a metal baking pan and cover it with foil. Poke holes in the foil to allow the drippings to pass through it into the pan below.
