How to Fix a Dyson Vacuum Beater Bar
The beater bar on your Dyson vacuum does the lion's share of the cleaning work. It whisks up dirt, hair and debris and beats the carpet fibers clean. If you don't regularly clean your Dyson vacuum's beater bar, it can get clogged. Hairs tangle and wind through it and fuzz gets stuck between the fibers. If the problem gets bad enough, the vacuum beater bar may slow its rotation, make a ratcheting sound or stop spinning altogether. Luckily, this common problem is easy to fix. To avoid getting into this kind of trouble again, clean your beater bar once monthly. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Unplug the Dyson and allow it to remain unplugged for one hour after its most recent use.
-
2
Lay the Dyson vacuum on the floor so that the bottom of the vacuum and the beater bar are facing up.
-
-
3
Use a screwdriver or a dime to turn each of the three screws that hold the sole plate covering the beater bar in place. Turn each screw one full turn to the left. The screws are not removable.
-
4
Pull the sole plate off. It will detach easily.
-
5
Pull the hairs and lint out of the beater bar. Cut stubborn long hairs with a utility knife or pair of scissors. Clear the beater bar and the areas directly adjacent to it.
-
6
Replace the plastic guard. Align the three tabs on the end of the sole plate -- the end opposite the screws -- in the three grooves. Rest that end of the sole plate into the grooves, then place the rest of the sole plate into place by pressing it forward. Turn each of the screws one full turn to the right to secure the sole plate.
