Aluminum is lightweight and cost effective, thus many porches in the United States are outfitted with aluminum roofs or walls. If you wish to attach plants or hang other outdoor decorations to an aluminum porch, you must take precaution to prevent denting the aluminum or damaging the integrity of the aluminum.
Step 1
Determine where you wish to hang your item on the aluminum. Mark the location by drawing a dot onto the aluminum with a black marker.

Insert the drill bit into the chuck of your drill. The size of the drill bit is based on the diameter of the "C" shape hook screw. A drill bit with a slightly larger diameter may be used; however, do not use a drill bit if its diameter is twice that of the "C" shape hook screw.
Step 3
Don protective eyewear and gloves. Position the tip of the drill on the center of the previously made mark. Lightly apply pressure to the back of the drill motor with one hand to ensure the drill is steady during operation.
Step 4
Carefully push the trigger for the drill, and gently add pressure. As you feel the drill push through the aluminum, release pressure from the hand behind the drill while the drill bit is still turning. The inserted drill bit will guide the drill until it breaks through the surface of the aluminum.
Step 5
Gently pull the revolving drill bit from the aluminum once it has completely passed through the material. Review the newly created hole to ensure it is free from debris.
Step 6
Insert the "C" shape hook screw into the hole with the hook portion facing you. Once the hook screw is inserted, screw on the washer to secure the hook.
Step 7
Test the security of the newly applied hook screw by tugging on the hook. If it feels secure, proceed with hanging plants, pictures or any other item you wish. If the hook screw feels loose, tighten the washer on the other side of the aluminum.
