Use accessories to improve the fit of your clothes.

Baggy clothes can make a fashion statement, but there are times when too much material is unflattering. This can happen with sweater dresses because the woven or knit material easily stretches out with wear. You can use accessories to fix the sweater dress to give it shape while also embellishing the look of the dress with a trendy flair.

Instructions

Wrap a belt around your waist to give a more form fitted look to the sweater dress. You can hang the belt directly around the thinnest part of your torso or around your hips, depending on which part of your body you prefer to accentuate. Most any type of belt will do, although those at least 1 to 2 inches wide will likely hold the weight of the sweater dress better. Try leather, macramé, chain or a satin sash.

Cinch the material in the back to pull it in at the waist and give the dress shape while smoothing out the front. Hold the material in the back together by an antique brooch or decorative clip or pin.

Pair it with accessories to give the appearance of length rather than width. For example, wear several long necklaces, such as chains, beads or both. Knee-high boots can add a stylish flair while also elongating the look of your legs. Long, delicate silk scarves draped around your neck can also be tasteful. Just be sure to avoid wearing bulky scarves, which can make the baggy dress look frumpy.
