How to Customize a Superhero Outfit
Even though hundreds of superheroes exist, the basic superhero costume consists of some general elements. These include tights or long pants, boots, a long-sleeved shirt, a cape and a mask (although some characters like Superman and the Fantastic Four don't wear masks). A superhero usually also has a unique logo, like the giant "S" on Superman's chest of the picture of the bat signal on Batman's chest. These elements, along with the color scheme of the outfit, can be changed around and altered to customize the superhero ensemble.

- Colored fabric

Purchase sweatpants or tights and a pair of shorts to fit over them, choosing a solid color with no logos or designs. Also purchase boots, a long-sleeve T-shirt or sweatshirt, a cape and gloves all in a different solid color that complements the pants and shirt.

Design a symbol for the superhero to wear on the chest and the cape. Refer to existing superheroes in comic books or on television for ideas. To make a costume of a specific superhero, some publishers provide printable coloring pages of their licensed logos.

Cut out the elements of the superhero symbol from appropriately colored fabric that will stand out from the solid color of the shirt and cape. If the symbol was drawn on paper, color the symbol with markers or crayon and cut it out.

Attach the superhero symbol to the center of the cape using a hot-glue gun or a needle and thread. If the symbol is drawn and colored on paper, use safety pins to attach it to the cape.

Repeat Steps 3 and 4 to make the symbol again. Attach it to the chest of the shirt.

Paint a design or decorations on the mask using craft paint to customize it as needed. For example, paint dark lines on a mask or cowl to represent stern eyebrows.

Customize the costume further by adding a hand-held weapon, like a sword or scepter.
Accessorize the gloves with wrist bands or energy weapons, such as the ones on Iron Man's hands.
