Bangs on a wig help to mask the unsightly lace front that typically can be seen at the front of a wig.

Adding bangs to a wig is a terrific way to spice up an old style or create a new one. Bangs can add a depth and realism to your wig to make it look even more natural. There are several ways to create bangs on wigs. They can be sewn on strand by strand, or sewn on using a wig comb. The simplest and easiest method of all, however, is to glue the bangs directly inside the wig. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a skull cap and wefts of hair that match your wig at a hair supply store. Make sure you get the closest match possible to make the wig appear more natural.

    • 2

Attach the skull cap to your own head, trimming off any excess pieces until the skull cap fits the head perfectly. Take care not to make it too snug, as it may cause headaches if it's too tight.

    • 3

Glue the cap inside of the wig using a glue gun and a strong bonding adhesive. Allow enough time for the adhesive to dry so that you can work with the wig and cap easily.

    • 4

Place the cap and wig on a model head made out of polyurethane foam. Use sewing pins to attach the wig and cap to the head so that it does not move while you are working with it.

    • 5

Organize the wefts of hair together on a table. As you begin to attach the wefts to the wig, you will want all hair falling naturally in the same direction. Comb any stray pieces in the correct direction.

    • 6

Attach the wefts to the inside front edge of the skull cap, using bonding glue and a glue gun. Bangs should look as natural as possible, so begin at the very front and work toward the back.

    • 7

Attach approximately two rows of wefts in the front to create bangs. Trim the hair when finished so that it is even. Allow the wig to dry for at least four hours before attempting to wear it.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use thin layers of the glue when attaching the wefts instead of big pieces. This will help the wig dry faster and prevent the wefts from moving and becoming uneven.

  • Never use bonding or wig glue on your own hair.
