How to Collage Two Images Together in Illustrator

Use Illustrator to create unique image effects.

Illustrator is an Adobe graphics application that you can use to create a collage of two images. Illustrator provides you with various tools to create and modify image projects efficiently. The layer concept allows objects to exist on their own level, enabling you to move and manipulate each object independently of the other.

Instructions

1. Open the image file of your first image using Adobe Illustrator.

2. Press “F7” to display the Layers panel if it is not visible. Click the “Create New Layer” button at the bottom of the panel.

3. Open the second image. Click to select the image and press “Ctrl” and “C” to copy it.

4. Select “Window” and “Cascade” or “Tile” to display both windows. Return to the first image and click on the new layer. Press “Ctl” and “V” to paste the second image.

5. Drag a layer to change its position if you want to modify the stacking order.

Tips & Warnings

• To change the opacity of a higher level image to allow the one beneath to show through, click “Window” and “Control” to display the Control panel if it is not displayed, then change the “Opacity” setting to a lower number, such as “50” for 50 percent opacity.
