How to Check Permissions for Volumes in VMware

The VMWare Virtual Center utility lets you view and edit user permissions for VMWare volumes. You use these permissions when you have several volumes with sensitive information located on a network. The permissions block unwanted users and allow others to freely use the VMWare volumes. Administrators typically use permissions on virtual volumes that run server or network services.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the Virtual Center software on the computer hosting VMWare volumes. Click the "Administration" button to open the security section.

    • 2

Click Add Role to add a new permission and role for the volumes. Type a name for the role in the first text box.

    • 3

Select a role from the list of role types and click "OK" to create the role. After you create the role, open a Web browser and navigate to http://server/admin (where "server" is your VMWare server name).

    • 4

Click "Add" to add a new user group to the list of server access users. Type a user name and password in the configuration window. Click "OK" to save the changes and grant access to the volume resources.
