How to Clear a Bosch Dishwasher Drain Pump

Save

Water is pumped out of your Bosch dishwasher by the drain pump motor; it's located on the bottom right side of the dishwasher. If the water is not entirely draining or not draining at all then there may be a clog in the drain hose or pump motor. It is important to clear the drain pump immediately to avoid flooding and other damage that could be caused from the clog. You can fully troubleshoot the cause of the problem by manually removing the drain pump.

Things You'll Need

  • Torx driver
  • Metal piece
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Wet cloth
  • Rubber gloves
  • Dish scrubber
  • Turn off the electrical power to your Bosch dishwasher from your kitchen circuit breaker.

  • Remove the two T-20 Torx screws from bottom toe panel on the front of the dishwasher using a Torx driver.

  • Tilt the toe panel, then lift it up to remove it from the dishwasher. Remove the Torx screws from both ends of the side panels.

  • Slide off the side panel trim, then remove the Torx screw from the tank on the right side of the inside of the dishwasher.

  • Remove the Torx screws from the right toe bracket, then remove the bracket. Lift off the hinge cover; pull out the tension cord from the hinge.

  • Remove the ground wire from the hinge using needle nose pliers. Insert a metal piece or a small wooden plank to hold up the tank from the base of the dishwasher.

  • Disconnect the wire harness from the drain pump motor on the back right side of the dishwasher.

  • Lift up the rubber straps from the drain pump motor, then release the latch connected to the pump using a flathead screwdriver.

  • Turn the drain pump motor clockwise with your hands; lift the pump motor out from the dishwasher

  • Disconnect the drain hose from the side of the pump by pulling out the hose with your hands. Clear out any dirt or clogs within the pump and hose using a wet cloth, rubber gloves or an extended dish scrubber, if necessary.

  • Push the end of the drain hose back into the pump motor once it's been cleared. Place the pump motor back into the dishwasher and turn it counter-clockwise to lock it into place.

  • Slide the rubber straps back over the motor, then reconnect the wire harness to the backside of the motor.

  • Remove the small wood plank or metal piece from the base of the dishwasher, then reconnect the ground wire to the hinge.

  • Reconnect the tension cord to the hinge, and place the hinge cover back on. Place the right toe bracket back on, and reinsert the Torx screws.

  • Reinsert the Torx screw into the tank on the right side of the inside of the dishwasher; slide the panel trim back on. Reinsert the Torx screws into both ends of the side panels.

  • Place the toe panel back on; reinsert all of the Torx screws. Turn the power supply back on from the circuit breaker, then run a test wash cycle to make sure the water is properly draining within the unit.

Tips & Warnings

  • Clean any dirt off the motor and the base of the dishwasher using a wet rag. With the drain pump removed, you can inspect it for damage and replace the part by ordering a new pump from the Bosch manufacturer.
