How to Improve Graphics With Poulsbo in Ubuntu

Intel’s GMA 500 video chipset, known as Poulsbo, doesn’t use the same open-source graphics drivers that other Intel video hardware uses. The Poulsbo graphics hardware was developed by a different company, PowerVR, and branded with Intel’s name. Intel provides closed-source drivers for GMA 500, which aren’t included with Ubuntu. You can improve your Poulsbo graphics performance by installing the Intel Embedded Media and Graphics Driver, known as Intel EMGD.

Open a terminal by clicking the “Ubuntu” menu icon at the top left corner of the screen, typing “Terminal” into the search box that appears and pressing “Enter.”
