How to Export Files from a DVR onto DirectTV
You can export the recordings from your DirecTV DVR to your computer's hard drive to clear space on your DVR and save a permanent copy. To export the files from the DVR you will need a USB TV tuner or video capture adapter to convert the signal from the DVR to a format compatible with your computer's software. Windows includes the Windows Media Center application to help you.

Insert one end of the composite cables into the Video and Audio OUT ports on the rear of your DirecTV DVR.

Plug the other end of the cables into the matching ports on the video capture adapter. For example, plug the white cable into the white port on the adapter.

Insert the USB end of the adapter into an open USB port on the side of your computer.

Click "Start" and select All Programs. Select Windows Media Center. Select TV from the menu that appears and click "Live TV."

Turn on the DirecTV DVR and press the "List" button on the DirecTV remote. Scroll to the recording you want to export to your computer and press "Select" to play the recording.

Click the "Record" button in the Windows Media Center interface to begin capturing the recording to your hard drive. Press the "Stop" button to complete the recording.
