Tissue Paper Mosaic Hearts
Many societies throughout history have enjoyed mosaic artwork made from broken shards of materials that were combined to form a pattern or design. Still popular today, these "mosaics" require a lot of work on the artist's part. When you want the appearance of mosaic without the hassle, you can use tissue paper and glue to create a pleasing piece of art in the course of an afternoon. A heart-shaped project makes a touching gift for Valentine's Day or any other time you want to express your feelings or enjoy time with your child.

1
Obtain a heart-shaped object to use as the base of your project. Hearts made from glass, wood or metal are all possibilities. You can also use a cardboard or paper-mache heart as well.
-
2
Squeeze 2 tbsp. of glue into a bowl. Add 1 tbsp. of water to the glue to thin it and mix well.

3
Tear or cut your tissue paper into 1-inch pieces. Ensure that all of the pieces are of a similar size. Cut edges will give you a cleaner, defined look, while torn pieces will add an aged look to your heart.
-
4
Paint a small area of the heart at a time with the glue mixture. Press pieces of tissue paper onto the glued area, and smooth out any air bubbles or wrinkles. Overlap the pieces as you work.
-
5
Paint a thin layer of the glue-and-water mixture over the entire surface of the heart once it is covered in tissue paper. This will create a seal that will dry clear and preserve your work. Allow the glue to dry completely.
