How to Close a Multiple Selection Drop Down Box

Websites and other computer software use several types of menus for navigation and entering information, including drop-down selection boxes. You may find that opening a drop-down box obscures a part of the screen that you want to view or that you don't want to make one of the selections listed. You have several options for closing the drop-down box, depending on how the menu was coded.

Instructions

    • 1

Move the mouse pointer outside of the drop-down box.

    • 2

Click outside of the drop-down box.

    • 3

Click the item that opened the drop-down box, or the item that replaced what you originally clicked. For example, if a "+" was clicked to open the drop-down box, a "-" may take its place. Click the "-" to close the box.

Select one of the items in the drop-down box. Though selecting one of the items closes the box, it may also navigate to a different website or software screen. Depending on the type of drop-down box, it may also insert information.

Press the "Reload" button on your Web browser to reload the page, or restart the software. This will remove any information that you've already entered. You should only do this if the drop-down box doesn't close using one of the other methods, and the drop-down box is hindering your use of the web browser or software.
