You may not need the standard keyboard if you attach an external keyboard to your nx9010.

Perhaps you want to use an external keyboard with your HP Compaq nx9010 Notebook PC while eliminating the risk of accidental input on the standard keyboard. Or maybe you only use a mouse or touchpad, having no use at all for the keyboard. These are good reasons for disabling the standard keyboard on your nx9010. Although there is no menu selection or keystroke combination that will disable the keyboard, you can achieve the same results by uninstalling the keyboard. But before doing this, make certain that you have a reliable mouse or secondary external keyboard to avoid having no means of user input on your nx9010.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your HP Compaq nx9010. Open the “Control Panel” on the “Start” menu.

    • 2

Open the “Device Manager” in the left column under Hardware and Sound or via the Device Manager icon in the Large Icons view.

    • 3

Click the “+” to the left of “Keyboards.” Right-click the standard “PS/2 Keyboard.” Click “Uninstall.” Click “OK” when you are warned that you are about to uninstall the PS/2 keyboard.

Tips & Warnings

  • To reinstall your standard keyboard, go to the Device Manager and right-click “Keyboards.” Click “Scan for Hardware Changes.” Click “Install” or “Update Driver” to install the standard PS/2 keyboard.

  • The HP Compaq nx9010 accepts external keyboards with either USB or PS/2 connectors.
