How to Make a 3-Dimensional Ring Using Styrofoam
Create a Styrofoam ring for a home decor wreath from a slab of the foam material, or make a Styrofoam ring of Saturn for a school project. Use a scrap piece of Styrofoam to save it from the trash and take pride in your recycling savvy and craftiness at the same time. The ring can be customized to any size you like and then painted or decorated to complete the craft.

1
Lay the slab of Styrofoam on your work surface. Place a large dinner plate on the foam and trace around the plate. This creates the outside of the ring. Cut out the shape with a utility knife.
-
2
Tie a piece of string to a pencil. Measure the diameter of the Styrofoam circle and divide this number in half to find the radius. Subtract 1 inch from the radius. Measure this length along the string and tie another pencil to the string at this measurement.

3
Puncture the center of the circle with one pencil and trace around the circle with the other. You now have now made the inner edge of the ring. Cut out the shape with a utility knife.
-
4
Smooth the hard edges of the circle with the utility knife. For a perfectly smooth ring, set an iron to low and iron around the cut edges. Do this outdoors in a well- ventilated area; the fumes aren't safe to inhale.
