One drawback of these jackets is the squeaking sound made when the leather rubs against itself. This problem is particularly common in newer jackets. A leather conditioner softens the leather, making it more flexible and less prone to squeaking.

1. Place a small amount of leather conditioner on your cloth. Make sure that your cloths are free of lint to avoid transferring lint particles to your jacket.

2. Wipe the conditioner on a small spot in an unobtrusive part of your leather jacket to test the colorfastness of the jacket. Good choices include under the collar or inside the cuff.

3. Hang your jacket on a padded hanger and place it in a location away from any heat sources. Wait for the conditioner to dry.

4. Check the treated spot to see if the conditioner affected the color of your jacket. If it did, you will need to try a different product or take the jacket to a professional cleaner. If the color remained unchanged, you can treat your entire jacket.

5. Place some conditioner on a clean cloth and apply a thin, even layer all over your jacket. Use circular motions when applying the conditioner to work the conditioner into the leather.

6. Hang the jacket and allow it to dry. Repeat the conditioning process as necessary to eliminate your jacket's squeakiness.
