How to Get Putty Out of Dog Fur
Putty, often used in household repairs, can stick and clump in hair and harden when it dries, making it difficult to remove. If your dog happens to run through your work zone, he can create a sticky mess. Luckily, most putty products can be removed in a few simple steps.
Things You'll Need
- Hand sanitizer
- Fine-toothed comb
- Cooking spray or oil
- Baby oil
- Conditioner
- Shampoo
- Rubber gloves

Put on rubber gloves to protect your hands, if putty is a skin irritant.

Pour some hand sanitizer on the putty in your dog's fur. Hand sanitizer works to dissolve most types of putty. Use a fine-toothed comb to work it out of the fur.

Spray cooking spray or rub cooking oil into the fur where the putty is. Oils can loosen the putty from fur. Use a fine-toothed comb to remove the remaining pieces.

Bathe your dog, rubbing baby oil into the putty. A large amount of conditioner works to loosen putty as well. Wash the fur with shampoo and rinse with warm water.

Tips & Warnings
Some types of putty, such as epoxy putty, are toxic and a skin irritant. Be proactive about removing these types of putty from your dog's fur to avoid skin irritations or possible consumption. Search your dog's skin for irritation. Take it to the vet if there is irritation or if you suspect the dog has consumed any of the putty.
