SocialPlus adds more personalized elements to the Facebook experience.

SocialPlus, a browser plugin for Firefox, Safari, Chrome and Internet Explorer, adds numerous features to Facebook that seek to enhance the social networking experience. Along with its quirky “dislike” function – a counterpart to Facebook's “like” feature – SocialPlus allows users to add profile themes, filter their friend lists, rate posts and type messages in different colors. The application also turns punctuation-based emoticons into graphical smiley faces.

Instructions

    • 1

Log in to your Facebook profile with your email address and password. Use a browser that has the SocialPlus plugin installed.

    • 2

Click the “SocialPlus!” tab in the upper right-hand corner to make the SocialPlus menu appear.

    • 3

Select “Manage functions” from the drop-down menu.

    • 4

Make sure the box next to “Show Emoticons” is green, meaning the function is enabled. If the box is red, click the button to the right of the box that says “Enable.”

    • 5

Type a message in any of Facebook's blank fields, such as the “Update Status” field, a friend's wall or the comment box under a friend's status update. Use punctuation to represent a standard emoticon, such as “:),” “:(” or “<3.”

    • 6

Press “Enter” on your keyboard or click the “Post” or “Share” button on Facebook to share your post. SocialPlus automatically turns the punctuation-based emoticon into a graphical smiley on the pages of other SocialPlus users.

Tips & Warnings

  • To disable this feature, access the SocialPlus “Manage functions” menu and press the “Disable” button next to "Show Emoticons."
