DIY Traction Kites
Traction kites -- sometimes called power kites -- are large, high-end kites that are helpful for pulling things along. While some people like to fly traction kites as impressive stunt kites, there is ample chance that the kite will take you for a ride along with it. Often, traction kites pull people on surfboards, snowboards or kite buggies. Traction kites come with break lines, which are helpful for bringing the kite down to the ground after flying.

1
Look for free kite plans online (see References). Choose a kite pattern that you suits your style and taste.
-
2
Purchase a strong nylon or polyester fabric in bright colors of your choosing. Buy Inflatable tube panels that will be used to form the kite's edges.
-
-
3
Place the patterns over the fabric and cut out the fabric to form the body of the kite. Be sure to choose thick, durable thread to sew the kite.
-
4
Cut your tube panels to the appropriate length using your pattern.
-
5
Sew the kite together using a sewing machine. Once you have sewn each seam, reinforce the front with a zigzag stitch.
-
6
Hand sew the inflatable tubes into the edges of the kite. Be sure to reinforce the ends of the tubes for extra durability.
-
7
Attach connection straps, which will adhere to the flying lines. Once the flying lines are attached, you are ready to ride.
