The helicopter move is used in complex cheerleading routines.

The helicopter is a break-dance move that combines martial arts with gymnastics. It was invented by urban street dancers on the streets of New York and was first introduced to the general, national public during the 1983 movie "Flashdance." The helicopter is used by some cheerleading groups to add flair to their routines, and show the endurance and skills of the cheerleaders. The helicopter move is difficult and requires a great deal of strength and stamina to complete properly.
