How to Use a Thermos Catalytic Heater
Thermos catalytic heaters have not been manufactured since the 1970s. The heater runs off catalytic heater fuel, or white gas, and was designed to be used as a small space heater. When first ignited, there is a flame but after about 15 minutes, the flame will go out and the heater will continue to produce heat. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Open the fuel cap on the side of the Thermos catalytic heater. Twist the cap counterclockwise to open it.
-
2
Fill the heater with gas. Your Thermos heater should be able to use either catalytic heater gas or white gas. If you are unsure, look for a sticker on the heater that specifies which fuel to use or research the heater by looking up the model number.

3
Put the fuel cap back on and turn it clockwise to close it, then lift off the cap that covers the wick. The cap may have a hinge clip on the side that holds it on; if so, unhinge the hinge clip and remove the cap.
-
4
Lift up the heater, turn it upside down, and then right side up again. Repeat this process until the wick has a wet spot in the center. The wick is large and will visibly show a moist area on it when it becomes saturated with fuel.
-
5
Slide the “On/Off” switch to the “On” position. The switch is located on the side of the heater.
-
6
Set the Thermos heater down and use a lighter to light the wick. Hold the lighter above the wet spot on the wick and ignite the lighter.
-
7
Replace the cap on top of the wick once the flame goes out. If it has a hinge clip, latch the clip back into place.
-
8
Turn the heater off by sliding the switch to the “Off” position.
