How to Make a Popsicle Stick Wagon Wheel

How to Make a Popsicle Stick Wagon Wheel thumbnail
Wagon wheels can have a varying number of spokes.

Popsicle sticks can have a long life after the Popsicle is gone, often through a variety of uses in the world of crafts. What you choose to build is largely dependent only on your imagination and the number of sticks you have. For an Old West motif, you can make a wagon wheel -- or even a whole wagon, if you choose -- without requiring a high number of Popsicle sticks.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a strip of cardboard roughly 4 inches long and 1 inch wide -- thinner if using smaller Popsicle sticks. This will be used as the hub of the wagon wheel. Cut slits across the width of the strip with a knife or razor blade to insert the sticks that will become the spokes of the wheel. The slits should be centered, just wide enough for the spokes to fit and at equal distance from each other. Cut as many slits as you intend to have spokes, generally eight or 10.

    • 2

Bring the ends of the strip of cardboard together to create a ring and secure the ring with tape. Insert the Popsicle sticks into the slits you made to complete the spokes of the wheel.

    • 3

Measure the circumference of the outer edge of the wheel with a tape measure and cut another strip of cardboard with a length equaling that circumference and as wide as the strip used for the hub. This will serve as the wheel's rim.

    • 4

Apply a few drops of glue to the tip of each Popsicle stick and wrap the strip of cardboard around the spokes of the wheel, adhering the cardboard to the sticks. Bring the ends of the strip together and secure them with tape to complete the rim.
