You transfer the WordPress files hosted on the server first before dealing with the database. Some Web hosts offer transfer services, but you do not need a great deal of Web hosting or blog script knowledge to successfully transfer the blog from Yahoo! to another server.

      Log in to your Yahoo! Web hosting account. Click "Manage." Click "File Manager." Click "Open Database Utilities" to gain access to all of the database related utilities that Yahoo! Web hosting offers you.

      Click "Backup Database" to create a copy of the MySQL database powering your Yahoo! blog. Choose a specific directory to download this backup copy to. Click "Create Backup" to store the backup file to this location.

      Open a FTP program and connect to the Yahoo! Web hosting account. Download the MySQL backup file to your computer. Download all of the WordPress files from the blog's home directory.Include all WordPress related folders as well.

      Connect to your new Web server. Upload the WordPress files that you downloaded from the Yahoo! server. Overwrite the existing WordPress files. Right-click "wp-config.php" and click "Edit." Some FTP programs do not have an edit option. If your FTP program does not allow you to edit, download "wp-config.php" and open it in a text editor.

      Check the database information in this php file to ensure that it matches any new settings provided by your Web host. You may need to change the database name or user information. Save your changes to this file.

      Log in to your new Web host's control panel. Click the "PhpMyAdmin" option in your control panel, or a similar MySQL database manager. Click "Databases." Click the database that your new host is using for the WordPress installation.
