Heart Rope Bracelet Craft

Heart Rope Bracelet Craft thumbnail
Hearts can be a nice theme for a rope bracelet -- or any other type.

Creating a rope bracelet can be a fun project, and adding hearts to it can turn it into a powerful-yet-quirky statement about love. Any bracelet-maker will consider opportunities for wearing the bracelet and outfits it might accessorize, but a heart theme can place the emphasis squarely on the color red.

Instructions

Lay three strands cut to the desired length side-by-side. For the length, measure your wrist (or the wrist of the intended wearer) and decide if you want the bracelet to be tight or loose. For a tighter bracelet, add about 30 percent to the measurement and cut your strands to that length. So, if your wrist measures 6 inches, you want to cut your strands to roughly 8 inches. For a looser bracelet, add about 50 percent. This should account for both the loss of length involved in wrapping and some margin of error. You can always cut them shorter if you need to, so be sure not to make them too short.

Wrap the three strands into the rope using your chosen method. For a simple, repeated twist, take one end of the three strands in your left hand, and twist the other end clockwise with your right hand several times, as if turning a screwdriver. This will twist the strands together along their entire length so they resemble a multistrand rope. Another option is the weave method. With the strands laying side-by-side, take the right-hand strand and loosely wrap it over the other two strands, then underneath and out the other side. Then repeat this with the left-hand strand, wrapping it loosely over the middle and right-hand strands, then under. This should create a weaved effect akin to a French braid. Continue with this method while alternating right and left sides until you are satisfied with the weave for the whole length of the strands.

Bind the ends of the strands with binder clips or other clasps as desired. These clips should include an appropriate connecting device, such as a hook for one end and a loop for the other. Alternately, tie one end of the bracelet into a decorative knot or loop, and clip the other end with a hook that can be inserted into the knot or loop to secure the bracelet.

Glue crystal hearts to the bracelet in a number and pattern of your choice using white craft glue. You will want to use hearts that are the same width as your rope, or smaller, since hearts that are wider than the bracelet could snag on long sleeves. Work from the center outward toward the ends for best effect. Some basic options are one to three hearts at the center of the bracelet or covering the entire bracelet with hearts. Make sure the glue is dry before wearing.
