How to Disconnect the Ribbon Strip on a Magic Chef Oven

An F1 code on the display of your Magic Chef oven indicates either a defective touch pad or electronic range control. The quick way to determine which system is at fault is to disconnect the ribbon strip from the control board. When removing the ribbon strip to determine the faulty system, it is necessary to leave the power on to the Magic Chef. This is perfectly safe because each of the wires on the back of the control console use insulated connectors. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Open the Magic Chef oven door and take out the upper cooking rack. Removing the upper rack gives you a bit more room to maneuver.

    • 2

Remove the screws securing the bottom of the top vent trim to the side trim with a Phillips screwdriver. Lift the bottom of the trim upward to access the control panel.

    • 3

Grab the sides of the control panel and lift it up to disengage it from the front of the Magic Chef oven. Pull the control panel away from the oven enough that you are able to access the ribbon strip.

    • 4

Press the tabs on the side of the ribbon connector securing the ribbon strip to the control board on the back of the control panel. Hold the control panel firmly and pull the connector away from the control board.

Tips & Warnings

  • Once you disconnect the ribbon, look at the display on the front of the control console. If there is no error code, replace the touch pad. If there is still an F1 error code, replace the control board.
