How to Build Your Own Indoor PVC Castle

Build an indoor castle out of PVC pipes

Kids can have a fun time playing pretend inside playhouses that are shaped as castles. You can construct an indoor castle using PVC pipe and fabric to make four corner turrets and walls that the child crawls inside. This type of castle is lightweight, so you can move it anywhere. You can also dry-fit each PVC pipe together without using PVC plumber's glue, so you can take the castle down when playtime is over.

Things You'll Need

  • PVC pipe, 8 to 12 inches in diameter and 3 to 4 inches in diameter
  • Pipe cutter
  • 4 PVC elbow fittings, 90 degrees
  • Hole saw
  • 2 fabric sheets
  • 4 Styrofoam cones, 6-inch by 3-inch
  • Epoxy

Instructions

    • 1

Cut four 3-foot-long pieces of pipe -- using sizes ranging from 8 inches to 12 inches in diameter -- with the pipe cutter. These will make the four corner turrets of the castle.

    • 2

Drill two holes 2.5 inches from the top of each pipe. Make the holes 3 inches to 4 inches in diameter so that the pipe fittings and smaller PVC pipes can fit into them.

    • 3

Cut two 4-foot-long lengths of the smaller pipe to become the front and back support beams of the castle. Cut two 3-foot-long lengths of the smaller pipe to make the right and left support beams.

    • 4

Fit the 90-degree elbow fittings on the ends of the 3-foot-long PVC castle beams. Push the fittings through the 8-to-12-inch-diameter PVC castle turrets, aligning the fitting holes to the ones you drilled with the hole saw.

    • 5

Fit the 4-foot-long PVC beams through the other holes in the PVC castle turrets. Slide the ends into the fitting inside, creating a large rectangle.

    • 6

Drape one fabric sheet from the left PVC castle beam to the right PVC castle beam so that the fabric touches the ground. Place the other fabric from the front support beam to the back support beam. This creates a roof over your castle.

    • 7

Brush epoxy on the top of the four large PVC turrets. Place the 6-inch-by-3-inch Styrofoam cones on top of them to finish the castle.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can cut square holes in the fabric to make window openings. Also, you can individually drape four pieces of fabric over just the beams of the pipe, creating walls without a roof.
