How to Use Ryobi BC30 Attachments on a Craftsman
The Ryobi BC30 is a brush-cutter tool attachment meant to cut through thick weeds and hard-to-remove stalk. While the BC30 is designed to be used with the Ryobi brush-cutter trimmer, the attachment will also fit onto other brand-name trimmers, including Craftsman. Attaching the tool onto the Craftsman is fairly simple to do -- but remember that using a different brand of attachment may void the warranty on the Craftsman or Ryobi unit if something goes wrong. Loosen the knob on the Craftsman trimmer head by turning it counterclockwise. Push the button in while turning and pulling to separate and remove the ends of the power-tool head.

Remove the string-head assembly from the tool, and remove the cutting-attachment shield by removing the three screws from the bottom of the cutting-attachment shield.

Line up the shaft-brushing hole with the locking-rod hole, and place the Craftsman locking rod into the hole. Hold the locking rod in place with one hand, and turn the blade lock nut with a 5/8-inch socket wrench, clockwise with your other hand.

Slide out the lock nut as well as the blade and blade retainer.

Set the Ryobi blade-attachment retainer on the Craftsman output shaft, with the flat side on the bottom. Turn in a counterclockwise direction to settle the retainer into position until secure.

Take off the locking rod and slide the Ryobi blade attachment onto the retainer -- and connect the three hex-head screws on the bottom, using a hex-head screwdriver, in a clockwise direction until secure.

Tighten the screws with a hex-head screwdriver in a clockwise direction, and increase the torque on the Craftsman to 40 or 50 inches per pound, at a minimum, for proper use.

Wear gloves and use caution when changing the attachments, as the blades can be sharp and injury may result.
