How to Get Creases Out of T-Shirt Sleeves

T-shirts crease easily, but also lose their creases easily.

T-shirts form the backbone of most casual wardrobes. They're remarkably versatile, coming in a variety of cuts and collar designs, as well as almost any imaginable color. They're also remarkably comfortable to wear, their high cotton content making them highly breathable and flexible. However, no garment is perfect and T-shirts, like other cotton garments, crease easily when they're folded for storage. You can avoid this by hanging your T-shirts or cure it by ironing or steaming them, but the simplest "fix" is to put your shirt back in the dryer. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Dampen a white washcloth or small hand towel under cold running water, then wring it out so it's nearly dry.

    • 2

Put your creased T-shirt in the dryer along with the damp washcloth.

    • 3

Set your dryer to the "wrinkle release" setting if it has one. Otherwise, set it to the normal dry setting and turn your timer to 20 minutes. Start the dryer.

    • 4

Run the dryer for eight to 10 minutes, long enough for it to come up to its full temperature. The damp towel provides a small amount of steam to loosen the fibers and the tumbling motion will remove the creases from your sleeves.

    • 5

Remove the T-shirt from your dryer. Holding it by the shoulder seams, snap your shirt like a whip once or twice. The T-shirt will now be wrinkle and crease-free, and ready to wear.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use a white towel or washcloth to prevent staining your T-shirt with a conflicting color.
