How to Create Mixed Media Pendants With a Collage
Turn trash to treasure with an old magazine, some scrap jewelry, coins and other items stashed away in your house by turning them into an imaginative, colorful pendant. Combining collage and mixed media techniques will create a one-of-a-kind item that will make a great fashion statement for you or a thoughtful gift for a friend or family member.
Things You'll Need
- Tin snips, scissors, utility knife and/or file
- Metal, stone, wood or fabric base
- Sandpaper
- Scissors
- Photos, magazines or old newspapers
- Adhesive
- Clear varnish or lacquer
- Hole punch or drill
- Scrap jewelry, coins, medals
- Chain

Cut your base to the size and shape you prefer. Depending on the material, use tin snips, scissors, a utility knife or a file. Sand or buff the base to produce smooth edges.

Cut out paper elements for a collage. Glue to both sides of the base material and allow to dry.

Coat both sides with varnish or lacquer and allow to dry.

Drill a hole at the top of the pendant. Use a hole punch for fabric or wood. Use a drill bit for metal or stone.

Glue various media, such as fake gems, coins, buttons or medals, to the pendant.

Attach a chain through the hole you drilled.

Tips & Warnings
Match the media to the collage. For instance, buttons would go well if the collage subject was fashion; medals make a good addition to a military or sports theme.
