How to Get Thumbnail Previews for PSD Files
With the release of Photoshop CS5, Adobe removed the ability to view icon previews of PSD files in Windows Explorer. They replaced this functionality with Adobe Bridge, an image library application that can be opened from within any of the Creative Suite applications. However, for those who don’t want to open Bridge every time they want to preview the contents of individual PSD files, there is a workaround that makes it possible to view thumbnail previews of PSD files in Explorer.

1
Download psicon.dll from MediaFire.com or another source. This DLL file is necessary to view Photoshop CS4 and CS5 PSD thumbnail previews under Windows 7.

2
Place psicon.dll in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Shell. Psicon.dll must be placed in this folder. If the folder does not exist, create it.

3
Download psddllregistry.reg from MediaFire.com or another source and place it on your desktop.
-
4
Right-click the psddllregistry.reg file and select “Merge” from the contextual menu. Pdsdllregistry.reg is added to the Windows 7 registry.
-
5
Restart your computer.
-
6
Open Explorer and navigate to a folder containing one or more PSD files. Their icons now appear as thumbnail previews of the images they contain.

Tips & Warnings
If you are running Photoshop CS4 under Windows XP, you do not need to download and use the psddllregistry.reg file. Placing the psicon.dll file in the correct folder, as described in step three, then restarting your system will suffice.
