How to Brace Kitchen Countertops
A number of products are available to brace kitchen countertops. Whether you select simple metal angle brackets or elaborate wooden corbels, their function is to support the countertop material that extends beyond the edge of the cabinet. Kitchen countertop braces are most often used when a countertop provides built-in seating, such as a snack bar. No matter what style you choose, the installation process is similar and is relatively simple. Install kitchen countertop braces before you install the countertop, if possible. - Paint or stain
- Paintbrush

- Drill and drill bits
- Screwdriver
- Silicone caulking
- Caulk gun

Paint or stain the corbels before you install them. If you are using metal braces and want to paint them, wipe off any machining oil from the manufacturing process before painting them. Allow the braces time to dry.

Determine where you want to install the kitchen countertop braces. Look for studs or other substantial forms of support. Plan the spacing of the braces so they are placed on each stud and don’t interfere with seating elements or any other items you plan to use in that location.

Hold one of the braces in position vertically and mark its location. Drill pilot holes into the marked location. Attach the brace with the supplied screws from the installation kit. Repeat this process for the remaining braces you plan to install.

Apply a thin coat of silicone caulking with a caulk gun to the horizontal side of each brace. Set the countertop in position on top of the cabinets and the braces. Apply additional caulking around the edges of each brace, once the countertop is set, to seal the edges in place.

Tips & Warnings
To properly brace kitchen countertops, the supporting material must be at least 3/4-inch thick and supported by the floor.
