How to Read Japanese Books on My Sony E-Reader

Sony's Reader e-ink device cannot read Japanese e-books due to lack of support for Japanese characters. If you want to read Japanese manga or books, you can get around this character limitation by converting your e-books into PDF files, which store each page as an image, allowing you to view the Japanese characters without Japanese support. Once converted, you can put the PDF file onto your E-Reader and read it just like an e-book.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your Web browser and navigate to an e-book-to-PDF conversion website, such as Online Convert (ebook.online-covert.com) or Convert Files (convertfiles.com).

    • 2

Click "Upload" and select your Japanese e-book via the window that opens.

    • 3

Select the drop-down menu under "Convert to" and select "PDF." Enter your email address if it is required; some online e-book conversion websites will send you the converted e-book via email.

    • 4

Click "Convert." Select "Download" or "Save" and choose a location for the newly-created Japanese PDF, then click "Save." If the e-book was sent to your inbox, log in to your email account and select the email from the conversion website, then click the "Download" link provided in the email.

    • 5

Connect your Sony Reader to the computer via its data cable. Click "Start," then "Computer." Click the Reader icon located under "Removable Media." Click and drag the PDF onto the device, then disconnect the Reader and open the Japanese PDF via the Reader's control buttons.
