How to Test Neon Lights

If you have a set of neon lights that you would like to test, then you can do so as long as you have a power outlet. Once you have plugged your neon lights into a power outlet, you will be able to determine quickly which bulbs are burnt out. Neon lights often are used in marketing and business signs, and specific letters likely will not light up.

Instructions

    • 1

Survey the cord. If it is cracked, you will need to have the cord replaced by an electrician or neon sign expert to replace it. Do not plug a cracked cord into a power outlet, as you could get shocked.

    • 2

Place the neon sign beside a power outlet in your home. Make sure the switch on the sign is off.

    • 3

Plug the sign into the power outlet. Turn the switch on. If one of the letters does not light up, then the bulb needs to be replaced.
