How to Decoratively Finish a Scarf

After knitting or crocheting a scarf, finish the fringe with a decorative flair with beads. Enhancing a handmade scarf with beads will give the item a customized look. If you're giving the scarf to a friend or loved one as a gift, choose beads featuring her favorite color for a personalized touch. You can also use beaded embellishments in vibrant colors to match the scarf to a winter coat or outfit.

Things You'll Need

• 4mm glass or plastic beads

Instructions

1. Place the fringed portion of the scarf on a flat work surface, such as a table. Run your fingers through the fringe to remove any knotted areas.

2. Choose a variety of 4mm glass or plastic beads of your preferred color, such as gold, silver, blue or pink. Stick with just one color for a uniform look or use a variety of beads for a rainbow effect.

3. Slide one bead to the top of one scarf fringe. Continue sliding beads onto the piece of yarn, allowing a 2-inch space at the end. Knot the end of the fringe to secure the beads into place.

4. Bead as many of the pieces of fringe as you desire in the same method. Enhance just a few pieces of fringe with beads or decorate all of it for a full look.
