Tips & Warnings

  • Use a shampoo made especially for permed hair. But instead of a store-bought conditioner, mix ½ cup aloe vera gel and a few drops of olive oil. Apply the mixture to your hair, leave it on as you shower and then rinse it out.

  • Limit the use of hot rollers and curling irons – always a good idea after a perm and especially if your scalp is irritated.

  • Give yourself a light scalp massage if it doesn’t hurt too much. A massage will slowly release the natural oils in your skin, providing relief to your scalp.

  • Find aloe vera juice at department stores; aloe vera gel can found in department stores or at pharmacies. At the time of publication, a gallon of aloe vera juice costs about $8; expect to pay about $4 for 6 ounces of gel.
